Changes to the New Zealand Certificate in Cleaning (Level 2) with a strand in Health Care Facilities Cleaning

Kia ora,

This email is to advise you of upcoming changes to the New Zealand Certificate in Cleaning (Level 2) programme with a strand in Health Care Facilities Cleaning.

The current 40-45 credit programme is being replaced by a new 43-48 credit programme, which leads to the updated New Zealand Certificate in Cleaning qualification that was updated in 2020.

All training agreements received after 3 July 2022 will be enrolled in the new 43-48 credit programme, which launches on 4 July 2022. Online and paper-based learning and assessment resources for the new programme will be available from this date.

No new enrolments will be accepted into the current 40-45 credit programme after 3 July 2022.

The key changes with the revised programme:
  • Overall credit value of the programme increases from 40-45 credits to 43-48 credits.
  • An adjustment of the programme name – the optional additional unit standard for Health Care Facilities Cleaning is now a ‘strand’ rather than an ‘endorsement’.
  • Inclusion of two new Customer Service and Communication units:
    • 57 Provide Customer Service; and
    • 62 Maintain personal presentation and a positive attitude in a workplace involving customer contact.

The average duration of the programme remains 7 – 8 months.

Download the revised programme brochure.

The new 43-48 credit programme reflects the changes in the reviewed New Zealand Certificate in Cleaning (Level 2) qualification. All revisions to the programme have been made with input from the sector.

If you have trainees currently enrolled in the 40-45 credit programme

For trainees currently enrolled in the programme, they will be awarded the qualification once they have completed all the requirements as per normal. They will not need to achieve the extra credits which are in the revised programme.

Current trainees have until 31 December 2022 to complete all assessments in their current programme and for the assessments to be registered as complete with Careerforce.

If they are unable to meet this date, trainees will be transferred into the revised 43-48 credit programme to complete the additional 5 credits in order to be awarded the qualification. Any unit standards already achieved will contribute to the requirements of the new programme.
