Changes to the Apprenticeship in
Peer Support Work programme

Kia ora,

This email is to advise you of upcoming changes to the Careerforce Apprenticeship in Peer Support Work. This apprenticeship programme is being updated to reflect changes to the qualification that the programme leads to: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Peer Support) (Level 4).

The updated version of this programme opens on Tuesday 25 October.

Key changes to the programme:

  • The title of this apprenticeship programme will be the New Zealand Apprenticeship in Health and Wellbeing (Peer Support) (Level 4).

  • A new module has been added: APP104a ‘Te Tiriti o Waitangi and My Role’.

  • The credit value increases from 122 to 128 credits but the average expected duration of the apprenticeship programme remains 18 - 24 months.

Updated programme opens for enrolments on 25 October

All training agreements received from
25 October 2022 will be enrolled in the updated version of the programme: Apprenticeship in Health and Wellbeing (Peer Support).

If we receive a training agreement from you for an apprentice into the current version of the programme after 25 October, we will be in contact with you to confirm the enrolment.

For apprentices enrolled in the current version of the programme

Apprentices enrolled in the current version of the programme will be awarded the qualification once they have completed all the requirements as per normal. They will
have until 31 December 2023 to complete all assessments in their current programme and for the assessments to have been registered as completed with Careerforce. Their Careerforce Apprenticeship Advisor will support them to prioritise completion of their current programme.

Soon, we will be communicating with current apprentices about their completion requirements.

Apprenticeship Boost Payments

In May 2022, the Government announced the extension of the Apprenticeship Boost fund through to December 2023. Employers can claim monthly payments of $500 per month, per apprentice. Employers are still required to claim these payments via MSD.

If you have any questions, please contact your Careerforce Apprenticeship Advisor.

Ngā mihi
The team at Careerforce
